What is Publishing Repro?

In the printing industry, “Repro” is short for “Reproduction” and refers to the process of creating print-ready artworks or files from your supplied design. Making necessary adjustments which include Colour Separation, Image Optimisation, Colour Management, Page Layout Management and Specification, taking into account the printing press requirements. If required, we can also reproduce your publications into digital output.

Our Publishing Production Capabilities

“Working with Tapestry on your publishing demands gives you a reproduction team that cares as much as you do, allowing your designers to do what they do best”. We fully recognise the required standards and tight deadlines in multi page publications, which is why we have the resources required to fulfill your requirements on time, within budget and to the highest quality.

Colour Separation

Colour Separation refers to the process of isolating the individual colours that compose an artwork file so the file can be accurately printed correctly. In magazine and multi page pages, this is almost certainly C,M,Y,K. Often however, we receive design files that may be created in multiple – or special colours. Except in very special cases, for publication work, It would not be possible to print these pages in this manner.

Image Optimisation

In simple talk, Image optimisation is the process of adjusting images so that they have the best quality, resolution, and file size for them to achieve the best result in print.

Colour Management

Colour management is the process of ensuring that colours are reproduced accurately and consistently against the original design. It is important for any printing project because colours can be critical to the success of a campaign or project. Images can be supplied in a variety of manners and with a combination of retouching, image enhancement and profile output, we guarantee your images will reproduce consistently throughout your publication.

Page Layout Management

Once your flatplan is supplied, we add pagination to the document. Your layouts are carefully checked for page size, correct bleed to images and panels, page furniture, legibility of captions, correct character styles, gutter size (and allowance) and any required picture splits. We would also prepare the final pages into printers pairs (imposition), once the layouts are approved.

Specification

Magazines and brochures are printed on a number of different papers, using different ink manufacturers, a variety of atmospheres and conditions and of course different printing presses. On output we use ICC (International Colour Consortium) profiles taking into account, the targets from your printer. We are forever increasing and updating our database of profiles.

Simulated Stock Proofs

Our studio is equipped with GMG software running on the latest Epson proofers. This enables us to produce high-quality proofs simulating your newspapers and magazines when printed – to ensure our clients can be confident before we release the final files to the printers.

Asset Creation and Digital Publications

We recognise the importance of the creation and export of high-quality digital assets tailored for online use and various media platforms. Generating optimised PNG files for use on social media, ensuring the correct dimensions, resolution and file size for each platform’s specifications.

A digital ‘eBook’ version of your magazine is created, which includes formatting the publication for seamless digital reading, adding interactive elements (such as clickable links or embedded media, if required), and ensuring compatibility across various devices and platforms. These assets are designed to maintain visual consistency while enhancing user engagement across digital channels.
